What is the crime rate in Slovakia for the first half of 2022?
From January 1 to June 30, 2022, thieves managed to steal 416 motor vehicles and 655 thefts of things and parts from cars were recorded. This follows from crime statistics published by the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic. It means that during this period it was stolen or almost stolen 6 cars per day.
The damage caused for stolen motor vehicles or things, or their parts, reached almost 4.5 million €.
In which regions was the most stolen?
Despite the fact that car theft has been on the decline in recent years, the opposite is true in selected regions. Among all regions, thieves are most successful in the Žilina, Bratislava and Košice regions. Compared to the first half of 2021, the number of stolen vehicles increased in several regions. In the Košice region, it was 52% more, and in the Žilina region, the number of stolen things and parts from cars increased by almost 90%.

Thieves usually choose cars where they need to overcome as few obstacles as possible. They try to be as fast and as inconspicuous as possible. Therefore, the general principle usually applies – the more obstacles there are, the lower the risk of theft.
