Nowadays, we are experiencing tremendous technological advances in all fields of science and technology. Computers, smartphones and multimedia have become a normal part of our lives in the last almost thirty years. The automotive industry itself is making equally dramatic progress. Modern batteries and semiconductors are enabling the development and production of advanced electric and hybrid vehicles, which are gaining in popularity. Unfortunately, even electric cars are not spared from the interest of thieves and organised crime.
While theft has been a familiar concept with conventional motor vehicles virtually since their inception, with electric vehicles it may seem that thieves have not yet caught on to such innovations. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. Just as technology is evolving in the development and manufacture of electric cars, so too are the skills and capabilities of thieves.
We recently heard from a customer in Slovakia who had directly experienced the theft of his vehicle, which was ‘secured’ with an original factory car alarm. Fortunately, the story had a relatively good ending. The vehicle was traced in one of the Nordic countries. Although it was badly damaged, the owner managed to return it home after a few weeks. His next steps led directly to us and his vehicle has been reliably looked after by our best seller Pandora SMART PRO ever since.
It was this case that led us to develop a special Pandora solution for electric and hybrid vehicles.
